Alan Shearer –  Football Pundit, £390K

Suppose you ever visit St. James Park, the home stadium of Newcastle United. In that case, you should spot a bronze statue of Alan Shearer. The prolific striker made his mark on English football, notching 283 goals in 559 appearances. However, he retired in 2006 and wasted no time joining a handful of former footballers who transitioned to journalism.

“Match of the Day” and “BBC Five Live” are some of BBC’s shows which Shearer appears on regularly. For his work, BBC pays him £390K. And when he’s not giving hard takes on TV, he features in movies like the 2021-released “Saturday Knight Takeaway.”

Gary Lineker, Sports Broadcaster – £1.36 Million

Avid followers of football are familiar with the name Gary Lineker. He undoubtedly had a successful career with 238 goals in 461 games for clubs like Barcelona F.C. and Tottenham Hotspur F.C.. Although he retired in 1994, his love for the sport moved him to join the BBC as a pundit in 1995.

“Al Jazeera Sports,” “B.T. Sports,” and “NBCSN” are some broadcasting networks he’s worked for. In addition, you can catch him hosting BBC’s “Match of the Day,” a role he’s held since 1999. In 2021, BBC revealed his salary to be a decent £1.36M. While the sum has raised eyebrows, you’ve got to be really good to host a show for over two decades.

Claudia Winkleman – TV Presenter, £365K

Claudia Winkleman is best known as the co-host and presenter of “Strictly Come Dancing” and its companion show “Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two.” Her work on the former has earned her two BAFTA Best Entertainment Performance Award nominations. And while she’s yet to win that award, her analytic style has earned her our admiration.

Winkleman wears many hats, and fans were delighted to see her contest in “Taskmaster’s New Year Treat” in 2022. She’s presented over 15 TV shows with the BBC. Her radio portfolio is just as impressive, so in 2021, she started hosting her eponymous radio show. All that work adds up to a £365K salary yearly.
