Mississippi – Outbound Moves: 52%

Not even the musical blues of the state of Mississippi could help out here. More and more people are leaving Mississippi in search of better jobs, wages, and living conditions.
Statistics point to the trend, and over 72% of those who left in 2019 did so to pursue improved salaries. With minimum wage being the norm here, coupled with a labyrinth of regulations across different sectors of the economy, more than half of all moves were outbound. Mississippi’s negative domestic migration rate has been plummeting, but recently, the state is doing more to address some of these issues.
