A Mountain Of Cactus

Because most cacti don’t have leaves, they tend to grow slower than other plants. But don’t do be surprised to encounter a cactus as large as this mountain-like bush. Judging from its tall height and columnar appearance, this impressive plant is most likely a Cereus peruvianus (also referred to as Cereus repandus).

Native to South America, the cactus is known to grow to as large as 32 feet in the wild and even taller than that when cultivated with care. And although it looks quite intimidating with all its thorns, the Cereus peruvianus is useful because it can bear edible fruits known as Peruvian apples.
