See, although the furry creatures look cute, they’re quite sizeable and are about the same dimensions as a domestic chicken. The largest of the kiwi species can grow to as tall as 25 inches and weigh up to 11 pounds.

The reason why people think kiwis are smaller than they are is probably because of the fruit of the same name. Originally called the Chinese gooseberry, the kiwifruit was renamed after the New Zealand animal because of their resemblance with each other.
