Watch the Margins on Notebooks

Have you wondered why notebooks come with margins? Not only that, why do margins differ in notebooks intended for different grade levels? To answer the second question, as a student moves up a grade, they are bound to have more control over handwriting, which means that less margin space works fine.

The presence of margins may be traced back to the rat infestations that used to be very common. Rats would chew into the edges of a notebook so the margins would ensure that the inside of the page containing important information would stay protected even if the sides were torn. After all, those thoughts and lessons are extremely important!
