When Joni Mitchell had her only daughter, Kelly Dale, she was unemployed and had no partner to help her raise her child. Unable to provide for her in any way, Joni had to place Kelly up for adoption. It was three years later when Joni had her big break with her Song to a Seagull album. They met each other again in the ‘90s, and up until that point, the whole story was a secret. To be fair, just by looking at them, it’s hard to see how their secret was kept for such a long time, given all their similarities, and especially Joni’s status.
