Did you furball strut in with a proud glint, laying down a ‘gift’ (read: unfortunate mouse or bug) at your feet? While your first impulse might be to shriek, there’s a method in this feline madness. This behavior is deeply rooted in their wild instincts. Mothers teach their kittens to eat by bringing them dead or injured prey.
When the house cat does this, they might think you’re a kitten, inept at hunting, essentially saying, “Here, eat because you’re terrible at hunting.” So, while it might be a bit squeamish for us, remember, in their eyes, they’re just sharing a bit of ‘Cat Survival Skill 101’ with their beloved human!
