James Garner, 86, 1928-2014

In his final years, and after his friends had gone, James Garner wrote a scathingly honest memoir, not softening his words about his complicated past. He was four when his mother died in the middle of the Great Depression, and he had a wicked stepmother. He even shared how much he disliked his Hollywood contemporaries.

In all his life, he would only be married to Lois Clarke. They would be married for 58 years, and they had two children together. He had a good family life until he died at his home in Los Angeles after suffering a heart attack on July 19, 2014.
