Tom Petty, 66, 1950-2017

Tom Petty distinctly fused British and American music styles with his band The Heartbreakers, and later, as a solo artist. Over his career, he sold 80 million records. Petty had issues with heroin addiction from 1996 to 1999.
He cited the break-up of his first marriage as one of the major factors and went to a treatment center in 2014. Sadly, on October 2, 2017, he was found unconscious at his home. He would die later that day. Medical experts said this wasn’t a suicide but a terrible accident of mixed drug toxicity from pain medication. Petty is survived by his wife of 16 years, Dana York, and two children.
