Mac Miller, or Malcolm McCormick, was a prolific rapper known for his canny wordplay and artistic reinvention. Starting with frat-rap, he transitioned into jazz-inflected songwriting, favoring collaborations, often at the expense of commercial success.

He had publicly struggled with substance abuse, particularly his dependence on lean, a mixed drug cocktail, leading to his breakup with Ariana Grande. His final album, Swimming, contained lyrics that discussed both his sobriety and his DUI. His life ended in September 2018, with his personal assistant finding Miller’s body in his apartment. It was later confirmed that he had died of accidental drug intoxication and overdose.
