Doris Day, 97, 1922-2019

Doris Day is better known for her successful career in Hollywood as one of the top female box-office stars in history. However, she was also an animal rights activist, co-founding Actors and Others for Animals in 1971 and the Doris Day Animal Foundation in 1978.
Day passed away due to a severe case of pneumonia in April 2019 in her refuge at Carmel, California. She would be 97. Last year, in the wake of her death, the foundation auctioned off some of her possessions and raised $3 million—ten times the initial projection.
