Eddie Van Halen, 65, 1955-2020

We have all been struck by the rock star Eddie Van Halen, a heavy-metal guitarist who started a renowned band with his drummer brother, Alex. Together, they made up Van Halen with bassist Mark Stone and singer David Lee Roth.

Like many rock stars, he had a bad history with drugs and alcohol, smoking from age 12 with his health paying for it. He had multiple bouts of cancer, a hip replacement, diverticulitis. He eventually died of a stroke at 65 and left Earth while surrounded by his wife, Janie, his son, Wolfgang, his ex-wife, Valerie, his brother.
