Harriet Tubman

American political activist and abolitionist Harriet Tubman was born a slave. She succeeded in escaping slavery and led 13 rescue missions that liberated almost 70 slaves. She made it her life’s work to help other people like her who were slaves in escaping their terrible situations.
She was born to slave parents, therefore she had a difficult upbringing. When she was a young girl, she was forced to perform taxing tasks and endured physical abuse that left her with lifelong illnesses. In New York, she actively participated in the fight for women’s rights, and in her later years, she devoted her time to caring for her family and needy people.
