Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna

Grand Duchess Anastasia was the youngest child of Tsar Nicholas II, the final ruler of Imperial Russia. She was assassinated alongside her father and other family members in 1918 by the Bolshevik secret police. In the years after the deaths, some of her relatives’ bodies were discovered, but her remains and those of her brother, Alexei Nikolaevich, were never positively identified.
As a result, there were reports that the duchess and her brother might have avoided being put to death. When a DNA test on a burial in another location in 2007 definitively identified her bones, the long-standing uncertainty surrounding her was eventually resolved.
