Putting The Concept Into Action

Through the mass conservation method, the scientists managed to understand what other structures lay beyond what the radar could capture. With satellite data that describes the ice flow motion on the continent, they could get more accurate depth measurements of the region’s deepest points and how much ice is left there.
The same technique was successfully used in Greenland in recent years, too. The project is called BedMachine v3 and was headed by Mathieu Morlighem, a professor who holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. He’s also among the glaciologists that worked on BedMachine Antarctica.
