Antarctica’s Fate

Turning efforts to reduce greenhouse gases would benefit Antarctica directly as the continent lies under an area where the ozone layer is still healing. The ultraviolet light allowed through the damaged part plays a part in the higher temperatures observed in the continent that then cause the ice to melt.
If nothing is done to manage greenhouse gas emissions, Antarctica is set to see a major melt, according to a scientific paper published in Nature in 2018. It’s speculated that around one-fourth of the sea ice’s volume would be gone by 2070.
