Cooling The Earth’s Bedrock Itself

Since glaciers lose ice from beneath the water level as well, some scientists have come up with a solution that targets erosion that happens below. Glaciologist Michael Wolovick believes that the friction caused by glaciers scraping the bedrock could be somewhat alleviated.
This could be done by drilling tunnels in the bedrock, which would then be pumped full of cold brine. Wolovick hopes that this would freeze the water found beneath glaciers and slow it down enough to solidify again. While these ideas offer solutions to a pressing problem, some aren’t optimistic about their viability.
