From The South Pole To The North

On the opposite pole of the world from the Antarctic lies the Arctic. And like its counterpart down south, its ice sheets are melting at an alarming rate. Greenland, the world’s largest island located in the Arctic Ocean, has lost nearly four trillion ice units since the ‘90s.
NASA’s scientists have also been observing the amount of sea ice present in the North Pole. In the past, they could rely on seeing thick, older ice survive the summer to pile on more as the winter comes while the new ice melts away in the heat. In more recent years, even the thick ice has begun melting, too.
