Shifting Attention To The Right Direction

According to Morlighem, the Ross Ice Shelf situation is fine for now as they discovered that there’s a high ridge beneath the glaciers that feed into the Ross Sea. This structure could help decrease the speed at which the area drains.
However, what’s more concerning is the Thwaites Glacier’s fast retreat in the western part of Antarctica. About the size of the UK, it drains onto the Amundsen Sea. The glacier doesn’t have a lot of impediments preventing its thinning. And to make matters worse, it sits on a bed that slopes inland, which accelerates its withdrawal.
