Bird Metropolis in Kalahari Desert’s Phone Poles
Possible Drone Used: DJI Spark

In the desolate Kalahari Desert, an awe-inspiring sight awaits those who venture into its arid landscape. A bird city, a masterpiece of natural architecture, adorns the telephone poles along the horizon. These enormous nests, built by the industrious weaver birds, are a true marvel. Made of twigs and grass, they can house over 100 pairs of birds.
Photographer Dillon Marsh captured the unique personalities of these nests with his 4×5 view camera, taking just one photo of each due to the high costs of film and development. The strange shapes clinging to the poles transform them into lone trees, adding life to the otherwise barren landscape.
