Elvis Presley With Joanne Wilson, Advocating in the 1950s

Elvis Presley was not only a music legend in his lifetime but also a man who people adored for the causes he stood up for. In the photo, Elvis takes a tiny peck from a young fan who suffered from polio. The NYC Health Department needed to spread awareness regarding the polio campaign in 1954, which was rising globally, so they contacted Presley to join hands with them and help promote the cause.
Elvis always advocated for vaccines and did everything he could to spread awareness. That included releasing the picture above, which he took just before appearing live on ”The Ed Sullivan Show.”
