My Girl’s Mood Ring

For many, “My Girl” is the ultimate tear-jerker film of the early 1990s. However, sharp-eyed fans might spot a historical oversight in the movie. The character Vada, played by Anna Chlumsky, wears a mood ring, which plays a significant role in the plot.

Mood rings, which change color based on temperature, weren’t introduced until 1975, two years after the film’s 1973 setting. These rings became a popular fad in the mid-1970s, known for supposedly reflecting the wearer’s emotions. Despite this minor error, the film captures the essence of childhood and the pain of loss, making it a beloved classic for many.
