Zippers Error in Amadeus

1984’s “Amadeus” is celebrated as one of the greatest films ever made, praised for its script and its vivid recreation of 18th-century Vienna. The film tells the story of the rivalry between composers Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri. However, amidst the period-perfect details, there’s a glaring error.

Several high-profile costumes featured noticeable zippers, a fastening method that wasn’t invented until 1913, about 60 years after the film was set. Such a modern detail stands out in a movie otherwise dedicated to historical accuracy. The film’s portrayal of Mozart’s life and Salieri’s envy capture audiences’ imaginations—probably why the zippers were an afterthought.
