Ian McKellen – 83, Burnley

It’s almost impossible to describe the real cultural impact of the great Sir Ian McKellen in just a few words. In addition to being one of the most accomplished English actors in history, he’s also an LGBT icon who’s been very active in the movement ever since he came out as a proud gay man in the late ’90s.
Even though McKellen started making waves in stage productions, most viewers should recognize him for his work in film. Last seen in the movies “Cats” and “Infinitum: Subject Unknown,” this Burnley native is most famous among young viewers due to his portrayal of ‘Gandalf’ in the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy.
