Virginia-Class Submarine – Cost: $3.4 Billion

Measuring 377 feet long and displacing 7,300 tons, the Virginia-class submarine was created to replace the Navy’s Los Angeles-class submarines. It was seen as a more affordable and smaller alternative to the Seawolf-class submarine, another nuclear-powered underwater seacraft. As of 2021, 34 Virginia-class boats have been procured by the Navy since 1998.
Submarines in the class can cruise at speeds of up to 25 knots and have the latest features for weaponry and intelligence gathering. Their primary function is to seek and destroy both enemy ships and other submarines.
