Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II – Cost: $80 Million

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II has been dubbed as the “centerpiece of 21st-century global security”. First built in 1992, it has become part of the backbone of 13 countries’ airpower. The fighter jet promises to be both lethal and safe, having advanced features that allow its pilot an advantage during encounters.
Unfortunately, the development of the F-35 has also been plagued by high costs, with lifetime spending on it hitting $1.6 trillion. They did have plenty to show for that amount, though. In 2015, ten F-35B model planes were declared battle-ready.
