USS Jefferson City – Cost: $900 Million

Named after the capital of Missouri, the USS Jefferson city is a fast-attack submarine commissioned in 1992. It is capable of performing support duties in missions like strike warfare and anti-submarine warfare. The Los Angeles-class submarine is operated by around 140 sailors.

The USS Jefferson City had a change of command in 2020, with Robert McDowell Jr. taking over as the captain of the underwater ship. Last we heard, it was deployed from Pearl Harbor in Hawaii to the Indo-Pacific area in 2021. Wherever it may be, the submarine remains a point of pride for the residents of Jefferson City, who have hosted the watercraft’s crew several times.
