Spherical Objects

The Martian outcrop called The Kirkwood was found in 2012 with a field of these unusual, spherical rocks. The “blueberries” discovered before are smaller and more concentrated than those seen elsewhere on the planet. The spheres have a diameter of up to one-eighth of an inch or three millimeters.

According to early studies, these spherical objects don’t contain the high iron concentration of Martian “blueberries.” The tiny imager on the Opportunity rover’s arm was used to examine the entire Kirkwood region. The Alpha Particle X-Ray Spectrometer on its arms were utilized to analyze the composition of the spheres, as well as their structure.
