The Bone-Shaped Rock

When photographs of a bone-shaped rock surfaced on Mars, conspiracy theorists went absolutely bananas. The truth is that Mars is littered with rocks. We may expect some of them to resemble everyday items. A snapshot from NASA’s Curiosity rover on the Red Planet sparked speculation that the robot had discovered a “thigh bone.”

But wait a minute. It’s not a bone at all. In the words of NASA, it’s nothing more than an old Martian rock. In the picture caption, NASA authorities said that although this piece of Mars rock seems like a fossilized femoral thigh bone, it is not.
