A Strange Hole Discovered On Mars

Near the south pole of Mars, scientists discovered this perfectly formed hole and the carbon dioxide ice at the bottom. A few hundred feet wide, a phenomenon called “The Hole” has only been seen from space. The experts are attempting to discover the possibility of subterranean tunnels under the hole.

The HiRISE lens on NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter captured photographs of a bizarre feature on the Martian surface: a deep crater that appears as a black area of darkness about 590 feet across. The HiRISE team at the University of Arizona was taken aback by the findings after correcting the brightness of the photo shot on January 24, 2022.
