Watch Out, Airplane Crossing

Railroad level-crossings are nothing unusual. But just how weird would it be to have a runway and a highway intersecting? Well, for the residents of Gibraltar, it’s nothing new. This photo shows the crossing between the Gibraltar International Airport runway and the four-lane Winston Churchill Boulevard.
According to the authorities, the lack of space and flat land caused the intersection between the airport’s only runway and the busiest road. Fortunately, there’s a pair of barriers on either side that close for ten minutes to allow the arrival and departure of airplanes. Despite the traffic jam, it rarely stops tourists from all over the world from visiting Gibraltar.
