Jerry Lawler Slaps Andy Kaufman

There have been innumerable great feuds in professional wrestling, but not all of them get the recognition they deserve. Jerry “The King” Lawler’s feud with actor Andy Kaufman is often cited as an example of a brilliant wrestling angle.

However, the performance on the David Letterman Show in 1982 was the event that made the Lawler vs. Kaufman feud memorable. The vast majority of viewers believed Lawler and Kaufman were engaged in a genuine feud, so when Kaufman launched into a rant and Lawler slapped Kaufman so hard that he was knocked out of his chair, they thought it was real.
