Heino, 81 years old

When you think of German folk music, you think of Heino. The genuine Volksbühne star was born in Düsseldorf at the end of the 1930s. After the war he returned to the city in 1945 with his family, having previously been evacuated to Pomerania. He first appeared as a band member in the 1960s, but then switched to a solo career. In this his first solo single was a direct hit. His songs, such as Black Barbara and Blue Blossoms the Enzian, are real pearls of folk music. Heino’s dark sunglasses were always his trademark. He wears these because of his bulging eyes. In 2012 he found musical rest as he stopped working altogether.
