Venom in Land and Sea

Whether you’re taking a stroll through a natural park or enjoying a swim at the beach, Australia is where you need to constantly watch your hands and feet. Why? Let’s just say there are many potentially deadly venomous animals in the land down under.

You may want to avoid the Australian funnel-web spider on land, whose bites can be fatal (even though there’s a potent antivenom available). On the sea, swim away from the blue-ringed octopus, a mollusk with venom so powerful it can lead to suffocation due to paralysis of the diaphragm. Ouch!
