(Not) Man’s Best Friend

They look like dogs, but they’re closer to wolves than household pets. Dingoes are typically Australian as kangaroos and Vegemite, and they can be dangerous to men and children despite their seemingly friendly frown. They were first spotted by British colonists in the 18th century and were then still living with indigenous Australians.

Dingoes were domesticized at one point, but they eventually became feral dogs. While they’re far from being man’s best friend, some dingoes can coexist peacefully with humans. However, unlike most of our needy, furry pets, they can survive in the Australian outback without any help.
