What’s Up With Tasmania?

Known for the emblematic Tasmanian devil—the largest carnivorous marsupial in the world—Tasmania is an island state of Australia. While there’s wildlife pretty much everywhere in the land down under, it doesn’t get much wilder than Tasmania! With less than 500,000 residents, the island is the country’s least-populated and poorest state.
Tasmania was inhabited by Aboriginal peoples for thousands of years before the British invasion. Like most of Australia, the island was first treated as an exile colony by European settlers. Today, it’s mainly known for its extremely diverse flora and fauna.
