Aboriginal Treasures

The Aboriginals are the indigenous people of Australia, and the gigantic rock in the picture is a sacred symbol to a particular Aboriginal group known as the Pitjantjatjara. It’s called Uluru, but it’s also known as Ayer’s Rock.

Humorously chewed as if it was a sandwich by a tourist who knows one thing or two about perspective, Uluru is one of Australia’s most famous natural attractions. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, it’s been visited by curious travelers since the early ’30s. At 2,831 feet, Uluru is the world’s largest single rock monolith.
