Saudi Arabia may have had a less positive experience during the 2018 FIFA World Cup. They could have had high expectations due to Russia’s poor form in the period preceding the tournament. But imagine our surprise when Russia rose to the occasion, defeating Saudi Arabia with an incredible 5-0 score.

Despite their uneventful loss, the Green Falcons had something going for them. The Middle Eastern state permitted women to travel to Russia to witness the World Cup in person, so while other fans were waving cheerily to their players, this smiling woman joined in to offer some much-needed support and contributed to boosting the players’ morale.
