Dolly Parton and Carl Dean

Year: 1966
Location: Georgia

Country music superstar Dolly Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, had a private wedding in 1966 attended by only a few people. But when it was to celebrate their 50th anniversary, the couple renewed their vows with a more lavish ceremony in Nashville.
Dolly’s friend and business partner, Steve Summers, designed her off-white gown for the renewal ceremony. The event remained private, but numerous accounts claim it was much more elaborate than their original nuptials. The couple reportedly sold their wedding photos to raise money for Dolly’s literacy charity, the Imagination Library. This vow renewal allowed them to finally have the big celebration they missed in 1966.
