The Montreal Screwjob — The Great Betrayal

The infamous Montreal Screwjob was one of the most controversial moments in the history of professional wrestling. By 1997, the WWF was having money problems, leading to McMahon suggesting that Hart consider moving to World Championship Wrestling (WCW). It was agreed upon that Hart’s final match in the WWF would be in Montreal at the Survival Series against Shawn Michaels. Despite the agreement between Hart and McMahon that Hart would forfeit his title after the match in Montreal (since he did not want to lose in his hometown), McMahon went against his word and ordered the declaration of Michaels as the winner during the match. This led to Hart lashing out.
