Fifth WWF World Title — Accident Ensued

Hart had announced that if he could not defeat The Undertaker for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam, he would never wrestle again in the United States. The Undertaker accepted his challenge and faced him, and Hart won, earning his fifth and last WWF World Heavyweight Championship. Michaels, who served as a referee during the match, swung a steel chair at Hart after the latter spit on his face and struck The Undertaker instead. Though it was an accident, Michaels would be banned from wrestling in the United States if he was not impartial, so he ended up giving the victory to Hart.
