The Rise and Fall of the Bullet Bra

Before the free-spirited ’60s saw bra-burning, there was the bullet bra. This cone-shaped, full-support undergarment was invented during World War II to protect working women in factories but became a fashion statement in the ’50s. Sweater girls wore tight outfits over them to accentuate their curves, and Hollywood starlets like Elizabeth Taylor popularized them further.

The invention symbolized femininity and glamour for a while, but by the ’70s, a more natural look was in vogue, and soft cups became the norm. However, Madonna brought the bullet bra back into the limelight in the ’90s, but it’s safe to say it’s not hugely popular anymore.
