Flattening Fashion: Not The Era of BBL

We’ve already established that the early to mid-20th century saw women’s fashion sharply turn towards the boyish figure. Gone were the days of the “Gibson Girl” with her curves and corsets. The flapper era embraced a more streamlined look, and part of the focus was on having a flat posterior, so dresses were designed to highlight this trend.

Women wanted to break free from traditional gender roles, and the boyish look was seen as a symbol of freedom and liberation. Reducing feminine curves was intended to promote gender equality, but women ended up resembling underdeveloped, prepubescent individuals instead of looking like women, and it was somehow appealing.
