Afro Beauty and Pride

During the rise of the Civil Rights movement, the afro was more than just a hairstyle; it was a symbol of identity and pride for African Americans. For too long, Black people had been pressured to conform to white beauty standards, including straightening their hair to make it more acceptable.

But Black people began to embrace their natural texture, leading to the popularity of the afro. The style was worn by civil rights leaders, musicians, and everyday people, becoming a powerful symbol of Black pride and the rejection of assimilation. Both men and women consider it appealing, and it remains ingrained in Black identity to this day.
