But Black people began to embrace their natural texture, leading to the popularity of the afro. The style was worn by civil rights leaders, musicians, and everyday people, becoming a powerful symbol of Black pride and the rejection of assimilation. Both men and women consider it appealing, and it remains ingrained in Black identity to this day.
