Anne Hathaway’s makeover in The Princess Diaries is among the best ugly duckling transformations in film. In the novel’s adaptation, awkward Mia Thermopolis lost her unruly mane, bushy brows, and thick glasses to become a regal princess worthy of Genovia’s crown. Hathaway was happy to be rid of her costume, too.

The Ocean’s 8 actress recalled feeling awful when she went out to the real world wearing her Mia costume. She even said that she had never felt so alone in her entire life. That said, we can’t wait to find out what she thinks of her nightmare-inducing looks for her latest film, The Witches.
