Nzinga

Nzingha Mbande or Nzinga of Ndongo and Matamba was born to the powerful family of Ndongo of Angola in 1583. Her family background made sure she received plenty of military training ever since she was a child. Following the passing of the preceding kings (her father and brother), Nzingha stepped in as Queen.
The timing was especially challenging for her as the African slave trade was growing rapidly during the time. Nevertheless, Nzingha never neglected her duties and kept fighting for independence throughout the 37 years of her reign. The above art will give you a glimpse of the power she would’ve carried as a female politician of today.
