Painite – $3 Million/Kg

When Arthur C.D. Pain first discovered, Painite, he was convinced it was a ruby. But, after careful analysis, it was concluded that what the dealer had in his possession was a rare borate mineral that was aptly named Painite.
The scarcity of this mineral is so extreme that until 2004, only two ores had been cut into faceted gemstones, which is almost half a century after painite’s discovery. Currently, the market price for a gram of painite sits at 3000 dollars, and rightfully so considering how rare the chemical process required to make it, occurs naturally.
