Taaffeite – $9 Million/Kg

Taaffeite is a very rare precious stone that has long been mistaken for spinel due to their similarities. It was the first and still is the only gem originally identified from a faceted gemstone. It can come in several shades of purple and pink such as mauve and violet, as well as colorless, brown, red, green, gray, and hues of blue.
This gem is a million-fold scarcer than all other gemstones on earth and can cost up to $20,000 per gram. It has been found to have relatively few sources of origin in the world as small specks were found in Sri Lanka, Southern Tanzania, Myanmar, Russia, and China only.
