Elephant Ivory – $1800/Kg

Elephant ivory used to be a token of wealth and prowess in some parts of society, and this substance also had its fair share of applications in traditional medicine. This all led to a massive increase in the slaughter of elephants across Africa and Asia and a widespread illegal operation that saw the price of tusks skyrocket.
The sad part is that the poacher on the ground makes a mere eighty dollars per kilo, while the syndicates at the top get to swing their ‘product’ for more than ten times that amount. All while devastating the livelihood of a majestic creature.
