Silk – $57/Kg

Silk has been around since the ancient days and gets its reputation of being one of the most premium materials when kingdoms would barter a great deal to procure it. Whether it comes to the silky feel it lends or the beauty of it, silk represents luxury, and the notion has not changed through generations.
$57/kg may not be as pricey as some of the others on the list, but given the quantity needed to make any type of garment, the cost quickly adds up. But, why is it so expensive? The process of harvesting from a domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori, is quite long, delicate, and hard.
